Notes: The 10 cats above are a selection of 50 studied in the Surrey Hills over a number of weeks. Researchers used GPS trackers to record the cats' movements over six 24-hour periods. Micro-cameras were attached to a selection of cats to film their activities.
All equipment was checked by animal welfare experts to ensure it was the right size and weight for cats to wear safely. The maps of the routes of the 10 cats above are not all from the same 24-hour period or necessarily from the same day the cat cam footage was recorded. GPS tracking data was filtered to discard obvious false readings, however some smaller inaccuracies may remain. Time ticks over a 24-hour period and does not reflect the hour of the day. With thanks to Alan Wilson of the Royal Veterinary College, Sarah Ellis of the University of Lincoln, John Bradshaw of Bristol University, and the villagers of Shamley GreenWeb production: Steven Atherton, Chris Finch, Alex Ranken, Lucy Rodgers, Helene Sears, Marina Shchukina, Noah VeltmanRead more about the.Watch 's Secret Life of the Cat on BBC Two on Thursday 13 June at 21:00 and afterwards on.
I’ve been in the Canadian cat show circuit for many years. It all started when, 13 years ago, I got my first pedigreed cat (Photo: Andrew Martinez)I am an outgoing person and I’m used to being in front of crowds, so I thought nothing of having a film crew follow me around for a couple of the cat shows I regularly attend. They were filming for Catwalk: Tales from the Cat Show Circuit, which has recently come out on, iTunes and Amazon Video.I’ve been in the Canadian cat show circuit for many years. It all started when, 13 years ago, I got my first pedigreed cat.Clancy, a red Abyssinian inspired me. I got it in my head that because he was a ‘fancy cat’ he should have the opportunity to win a champion title. So we went to one cat show. He became a champion and that was that. AdvertisementI then got another Abyssinian and took him to shows along with Clancy.

And so on and so on.You’re either a person who thrives on competition or not. Those of us who take our cats to shows are the ones who thrive. We are certain our cat is awesome and a spectacular example of the breed. And because of that it’s often hard for us to understand why another cat was chosen as best and ours wasn’t.But when your cat is chosen first it’s an incredible feeling – you couldn’t be prouder.I think that is something that the documentary portrayed accurately. They told our stories without making us seem like crazy people.
Chance and Bobby are two of Kim’s cats (Photo: Helmi Flick)They showed us as real people, not only with a passion for cats – which, yes, a lot of people will say is crazy – but as people who have a lot more going on than just their pets.I realise that Catwalk made it seem like there was a lot of competitiveness between me and Shirley, and her cat Oh La La, and that’s because it’s the truth.I would have loved it if they had never come to the show because then Bobby, my cat, would have swept the title. But in the end, she did; she has a great cat and she is competition. I can’t hate her because of that.We are competitors in that we will be showing in the same class again this spring, but we are also friends who message back and forth every week, and collaborators, working on projects for CCA in order to help the association grow.
I can’t see a future for myself where I am not participating in cat shows. Bobby is semi-retired and enjoying grabbing a mouthful of kitten kibble whenever he can now.He plays the role of uncle to the kittens I am breeding wonderfully; he grooms and plays with them whilst also teaching them to be cool, calm and collected.Currently I am showing Chance, Bobby’s son, in CCA and he is in first place now.I’m just waiting for a new floofy cat to show up and rip his placing away. I am also showing Vivienne, my breeding female, and she’s doing well.I’m excited for the future and have hopes of doing cat shows abroad. You never know I may be at a cat show near you!MORE.
